In our world that is so technology driven, it is important that we teach our kids the correct way to type and format everything from emails to research papers. And there is help for that!
Keyboarding for the Christian School is an award-winning keyboarding curriculum. It is a systematic and thorough set of lessons beginning with, “This is a keyboard.”
Each individual lesson is short and includes practice and tips for each set of letters, symbols, or numbers. As kids get used to hand placement and which fingers are used for what keys, Scripture verses are added in each lesson for additional practice. In the latter section of the book there are lessons focused on horizontal and vertical centering and enumerated lists.
I used this pdf book with my youngest, and at first it was frustrating for her because she had already developed some typing habits that weren’t good. As she went through the lessons, she had to “relearn” the right way. She did enjoy the Scripture verse practices, and as one who loves to write stories, she likes the fact that she can now type quickly and efficiently.
I printed out the book so she could get used to transferring things from paper to the computer. I did find that we had to modify a few things because we were using a Mac. The keyboard is slightly different, and because we weren’t using Word, we had to use different formatting tasks than were listed in the book.
Keyboarding for the Christian School, Elementary Version is available for $12.95 as a pdf download. You can also buy a full-color hard copy for $45, which includes shipping and handling.
