Monday Meditation

I don’t know if these Scripture meditations help anyone else, but they certainly are helpful for me to get my mind focused on:
  • a particular aspect of God’s nature,
  • a character trait to work on for the week, or
  • a word or phrase that encourages my heart

So often I get focused on the wrong things–the overwhelming cares of the moment, the concerns over the future, the what-ifs and what-abouts–and my heart and mind need a nudge to “cast all your cares upon him, because he cares for you” (1 Pet. 5:7).

My hope and prayer is that these verses I mention each week will bless, encourage, and challenge you as well.

Today I’d like to share one of the verses we heard in the sermon yesterday:

Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already arrived at my goal, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me.

Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it.

But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.

Phil. 3:12-14 (NIV, emphasis mine)

It’s probably a familiar one, but the emphasis on forgetting what is behind is what struck me.

What is it that stands out to you in these verses?
